What is Folksyle Wrestling?

Folkstyle Wrestling, also known as collegiate wrestling, is a style of wrestling that is primarily practiced in the United States, particularly at the high school and collegiate levels. It is characterized by its emphasis on control, mat work, and points scored for various maneuvers.

In folkstyle wrestling, the match is divided into three periods, each lasting two minutes at the high school level and three minutes at the college level. Wrestlers score points by gaining control over their opponent through takedowns, reversals, escapes, and near-falls. Unlike freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, which are more common in international competition, folkstyle wrestling places a strong emphasis on controlling an opponent on the mat and scoring points from dominant positions.

Overall, folkstyle wrestling is known for its physicality, strategy, and emphasis on both offensive and defensive techniques. It is a challenging and rewarding sport that requires strength, agility, and mental toughness.
